welcome to my visual travel diary

Magia de Mexico City

Join me on my trip to Mexico City, where I explore vibrant neighborhoods, savor mouthwatering food, experience lively nightlife, and immerse myself in rich culture. Every corner of this bustling city offers something new and exciting, and I’m thrilled to share my adventures with you.

Exploring Neighborhoods

There are tons of options for accommodations in CDMX, whether you’re looking for the vibrant art scene, luscious greenery, or a more local feel, CDMX has got it all.

Condesa

This neighborhood is one of my favorite neighborhoods, and coincidentally where my first airbnb was located. With its hip vibe, vibrant cafes, and the picturesque Parque Mexico, it’s a must-visit spot. Bonus because Parque Mexico is located in this area!

Roma

Roma is one of Mexico City’s trendiest neighborhoods, known for its bohemian vibe and artistic flair. Similar to Condesa, you’ll find streets filled with vibrant murals and eclectic architecture. This area also has the best nightlife (in my opinion)!

Polanco

Polanco is known for its upscale vibe, as this neighborhood is home to high-end shopping, gourmet dining, and elegant architecture! Here you will find Avenida Presidente Masaryk and Museo Soumaya.

Juarez

For a taste of local life and cultural diversity, head to Juarez. From its rich history and cultural diversity to its contemporary charm and culinary delights, Juarez offers an inviting tone. While you’re here, make sure to check out El Ángel de la Independencia as it’s nearby!

Mexico City Center

While Centro Histórico may not be ideal for accommodations, it’s a rich hub of history and culture. Here you can explore landmarks like Palacio Nacional, Palacio de Bellas Artes, and Templo Mayo.

Actividades / Sightseeing

Mexico City is bursting with things to see and do, and let me tell you, the list is extensive! I had 9 full days of exploring, and even then I didn’t see it all. Mexico City has it all. So one tip I have is to take your time, soak up the vibrant energy of the city, and savor each moment of your adventure!

Museums

Museo Nacional de Antropología

Explore the rich tapestry of Mexico’s history at this celebrated museum. With highlights like the iconic Aztec Calendar Stone and a vast collection of pre-Columbian artifacts, it’s a fascinating journey through the country’s cultural heritage

Museo Soumaya

This architectural gem houses an impressive array of art. The building’s unique design alone is worth the visit, making it a standout destination for art enthusiasts. An added bonus is that this museum is free to visit, making it accessible to all!

Historical Landmarks

El Ángel de la Independencia

Known affectionately as “El Ángel,” this golden statue on Paseo de la Reforma symbolizes Mexico’s independence. Whether you’re passing by during the day or seeing it illuminated at night, this landmark at one of the city’s busiest intersections so be careful crossing the street when you take your photo!

Palacio de Bellas Artes

This magnificent white marble palace is a cultural treasure. Inside, you’ll find stunning murals by Diego Rivera and other famed Mexican artists, along with a variety of performances from ballet to opera which you can book in advance!

Biblioteca Vasconcelos

Biblioteca Vasconcelos is a major library in Mexico City and is notable for its modern architecture and extensive collection. It is filled with towering bookshelves and eye-catching art installations, making it truly one of a kind for book lovers and art enthusiasts.

Historical Sites

Chapultepec Castle

Situated atop a hill in Mexico City, Chapultepec Castle is a historical gem with stunning city views. From its days as an imperial residence to its current role as the National Museum of History, it offers a fascinating glimpse into Mexico’s past. Explore its elegant rooms and verdant gardens while enjoying panoramic vistas of the cityscape below.

Pyramids of Teotihuacan

A short drive from the city, the ancient pyramids of Teotihuacan are a journey back in time. Climbing the massive Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon offers stunning views and a profound connection to Mexico’s ancient civilizations. It’s a day trip that’s both awe-inspiring and humbling.

El Gran Final

Pumas Game at UNAM

Attending a Pumas game at Estadio Olímpico Universitario was simply incredible! Thanks to a friend who worked at UNAM, I was able to get tickets to this event. The atmosphere was electric, with passionate fans filling the stadium and the excitement of the game in the air. Experiencing Mexican football culture firsthand was incredible, and it’s a memory I’ll always cherish.

Comer y Comer y Comer

There is absolutely no shortage of good food in Mexico City. Here are a few of my personal recommendations! And if you can’t try them all, I highly recommend you don’t skip El Califa (a local late night favorite).

El Moro

One of the oldest churro shops in Mexico City, established in 1935 and a fan favorite for a reason! Their churros are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfectly coated in cinnamon sugar. And the chocolate dipping sauce only makes them that much more delicious.

Orinoco

A popular taco spot in Mexico City, renowned for its delicious and authentic Mexican cuisine. Orinoco takes pride in offering tacos that stay true to traditional Mexican recipes while offering a casual atmosphere and affordable prices

El Califa

A favorite among locals and visitors alike, El Califa is known for its mouthwatering tacos al pastor. Open late into the night, it’s the perfect spot for a post-night-out meal or a late-night snack. The vibrant atmosphere and delicious food make it a must-visit destination in Mexico City.

Chubbies Burger

Chubbies Burger is another hot spot known for dishing out some of the finest burgers in Mexico City. Personally, I’d go as far as to rank their burger among my top five favorites of all time.

La Polanquena

A charming restaurant that specializes in traditional Mexican cuisine with a contemporary twist. The cozy ambiance and friendly service make it a great choice for an upscale dining experience. This is a great spot to check out after shopping the vibrant streets of the nearby Polanco neighborhood.

These are only a few hotspots that I had the pleasure of trying. Stayed tuned for my complete CDMX eats and drinks blog coming soon!

It’s been a blast exploring the streets of Mexico City, tasting amazing food, and soaking up the vibrant atmosphere. While I’m sad to leave, I’m also excited for future adventures. So, until next time, adiós, Mexico City! Keep the tacos warm for me.
